Questions
by association leaders, Responses by WAM staff
If
you have a question for the next newsletter, please e-mail
it to info@wamllc.net.
Question:
Dear WAM: We loved your
suggestion about the newspaper clipping service that is provided
by the Wisconsin Newspaper Association! Do you have any other
suggestions for monitoring legislative activity on our industry
in Wisconsin?
Answer:
There are other resources available. The aforementioned clipping
service is a great resource. Here is their sales pitch: "Tell
us specifically what you want us to look for, and we'll do
just that...mentions of your company, its subsidiaries, plant
location, special key words, and what the company or organization
makes or does."
More
importantly, the State of Wisconsin provides a great free
resource called the Legislative Notification Service. As a
subscriber to this service you can search and choose which
legislation to track. Items can be tracked by bill number,
author, committee or subject. You also get to select which
activities will trigger your e-mail notifications. For example,
we use "storage" as our keyword for the Wisconsin
Self Storage Association. We also use "sign" as
a keyword search for the Wisconsin Sign Association. Be creative!
There may be related keywords that have something to do with
your industry, so be sure to be notified about those as well.
By participating in this service, you are taking an important
step to ensure that no legislative issue is missed by your
Association.
The
daily e-mail report will look like this:
You
requested to be notified of the following legislative activities:
Subject:
sign; Fiscal estimate received for AB-144 on April 19, 2005
; Bill History: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/2005/data/AB144hst.html;
Relating to: designating and marking a portion of STH 19 as
the Georgia O'Keeffe Memorial Highway.

Madison - Gov.
Jim Doyle will be naming lawyer Celia Jackson as the secretary
of regulation and licensing.
Jackson
is a former Marquette University Law School assistant dean,
Milwaukee County assistant district attorney and delegate
for community services for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Currently,
she is the senior policy adviser for Pax Christi USA, which
works on justice issues for the Catholic Church.

Board offers new way to examine legislators' financial interests
Source:
April 15, 2005 Press Release by the State of Wisconsin Ethics
Board
The
Wisconsin Ethics Board announced that it is making available
on CD-ROMs the Statement of Economic Interests filed by all

ACTION
ALERT- this affects us!
AHP Bill Needs Senate Co-Sponsors
Source: http://capwiz.com/asae/home/
Legislation
allowing the formation of association health plans (AHPs)
cleared a hurdle with recent passage by the House Education
& the Workforce Committee on a party-line vote.
The
"Small Business Health Fairness Act" introduced
in the House Feb. 2, would allow small businesses to pool
together through their trade associations and negotiate health
care coverage for their employees and their families at lower
rates.
Right
now, it is important for this bill to be considered, and pass
through the House and Senate. Please ask your Senators to
co-sponsor S 406. To locate your legislator, visit http://165.189.139.210/WAML/.
